For your consideration is this GSA NC Flag manufactured by Valley Forge Flag Company. This is a 1950's National Guard Flag that measures 5ft x 8ft. This piece is made of cotton bunting with a canvas header. This flag is sewn. This is the 1885 Design NC flag.
This is a GSA (Government Services Administration) DoD Flag flown at NC Army National Guard Base during the 1950’s.
*** NOTE: The Valley Forge label doesn’t have a Zip Code. Zip Codes were first introduced in 1963 after Postal Zones were abolished. The header has a double row of stitching. The tag places this flag before 1963. The 2 rows of stitching on the top of the header puts this flag to the mid 50’s.
Valley Forge was primarily a Government contract holder until around 2005. They are still have a heavy Government contract holder, yet they have tried to compete with Annin on a broader scale. ***
North Carolina flag dimensions were changed by the NC General Assembly in 1991.
This piece has light staining and wear from use.
The flag of the state of North Carolina was adopted by statute of the North Carolina General Assembly in 1885. It is defined in the general Statute 144 - 1 as follows:
That the flag of North Carolina shall consist of a blue union, containing in the center thereof a white star with the letter "N" in gilt on the left and the letter "C" in gilt on the right of said star, the circle containing the same to be one-third the width of the union. The fly of the flag shall consist of two equally proportioned bars; the upper bar to be red, the lower bar to be white; that the length of the bars horizontally shall be equal to the perpendicular length of the union, and the total length of the flag shall be one-third more than its width. That above the star in the center of the union there shall be a gilt scroll in semi-circular form, containing in black letters this inscription "May 20th 1775," and that below the star there shall be a similar scroll containing in black letters the inscription: "April 12th 1776".
It bears the dates of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (May 20, 1775) and of the Halifax Resolves (April 12, 1776), documents that place North Carolina at the forefront of the American independence movement. Both dates also appear on the Seal of North Carolina.
On June 24, 1991, a bill was passed by the North Carolina Senate that changed the official proportions of the state flag. It changed from "..the total length of the flag shall be one-third more than its width" as written in the 1885 act to "...the total length of the flag shall be one-half more than its width".
VALLEY FORGE AS GOVERNMENT CONTRACTOR
Founded in 1882, Valley Forge Flag Company, Inc. remains to this day a family-run business. Beginning as a burlap-bag business that later sold World War I surplus, including U.S. flags, the company has evolved and grown through four generations.
During the Depression Era, the company opened its first small sewing factory in Spring City, Pennsylvania to meet the increasing demand for U.S. flags, giving a formal beginning to the Valley Forge Flag brand.
World War II brought an unprecedented demand for U.S. flags. Military and other government contracts soon became the Company’s core business and remains a strategically important part of that business today.

LETS INVESTIGATE THE PHYSICAL EVIDENCE OF THIS PIECE
***********************************************
This flag is more than just an North Carolina State Ensign, this is a true piece of United States history.
Without the word of mouth history that this flag was flown by the NC Army National Guard let’s look at the flags tangible evidence for this piece.
This flag’s tag doesn’t have a Zip Code. Zip Codes were introduced in 1963. That would put this flag prior to 1962. That puts this flag within 20 year period from WW2 through 1962.
The Valley Forge Flag Company didn’t start start manufacturing flags under that name until 1942. Valley Forge stamped their flags at this period. This label seen on the flag was introduced in 1949. Thus this flag can be pegged between 1949 and 1962. That puts this flag in a smaller period of production between of 13 years.
The label and GSA stamp is representative of a Circa 1955 Contract piece.
The Valley Forge flag company is a US government and US Military contractor. Their contracts with the U.S. government includes the manufacture of Government Services Administration flags, Veterans Administration flags, and Military Flags. They have held these contracts from WW2 through today.
The headers of GSA flags that are on US Military contract pieces are very heavy, just like this piece. Thus we know it’s a Military contract GSA Flag from 1949-1962.
The tangible evidence shows that this flag truly fits the word of mouth providence given with this piece and by physical evidence this piece truly was used by the NC Army National Guard.
Thank you for your interest on this Amazing Korean War NC Army National Guard flag from the Korean War Era.
Have a blessed day.
