CHAMELEONS CHANGE COLOR FOR CAMOUFLAGE
Chameleons protect themselves by changing colors to blend in with their
environment. Chameleons move extremely slowly, so their best defense is their
ability to camouflage themselves.
Green chameleons usually live in the trees and brown chameleons live on the
ground to help them match their surroundings. This also allows these creatures to
hide from their prey. These animals sit quietly and wait for their prey to come to
them, then they use their long sticky tongues to grab insects for food. They also
have mitten-like feet that allow them to firmly grip the ground or a branch.
Chameleons have unique eyes that can visualize two different things or objects at
the same time. This ability allows chameleons to quickly pinpoint potential
predators and prey.
